Restylane® has been used in over 70 countries, and in over 1.4 million times in the United States.
It is the world’s most studied and most used dermal filler, so we are confident that it will meet the needs of our patients.
Restylane® and Perlane®, the newest addition to the Restylane® family of products are injected in similarly to Collagen but do not require a prior skin test to look for allergic reaction. Since the results are immediate, downtime consists of as little as a few hours.
Both Restylane® and Perlane® contain Hyaluronic Acid, an injectable agent well suited to enhance lips, correct wrinkles or otherwise augment soft tissue. In the case of of Restylane® and Perlane®, the hyaluronic acid is created in a laboratory, but it can also be derived from animal sources (rooster comb). The primary difference between Perlane® and Restylane® is that Perlane® filler contains a larger concentration of hyaluronic acid. Because of this, Perlane® is generally used for larger folds, while Restylane® injections are better suited for smaller wrinkles or to maintain previous Perlane® injection results.
Common uses for Restylane® and Perlane® include:
- Wrinkle correction
- Diminishing worry lines, smile lines, crow’s feet, marionette lines at corners of the mouth, and smoker’s lines
- Lip enhancement
- Chin augmentation
- Softening acne scars
- Filling cheek depressions
- Reducing the severity of nasolabial folds
- Redefining lip border
Other, less common, uses for Restylane® and Perlane® include:
- Creating a temporary eyebrow lift

What is Restylane?
Restylane is a gel based on stabilized hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the body. Restylane injections can effectively reduce wrinkles, improve contour and volume, and rejuvenate skin.
How does Restylane work?
Restylane is a soft, injectable gel that works by replenishing the hyaluronic acid supply of the skin, rejuvenating it, and adding volume to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and lines.
What areas can be treated with Restylane?
Restylane can be used to rejuvenate skin, create more full lips, improve facial contour in the cheek and chin, and to smooth away facial lines and wrinkles. It is commonly used for nose to mouth lines (the nasolabial folds),between the eyebrows (the glabella lines), on lips (adding volume and shape) on the cheeks and chin (shaping and contouring), and on the face, neck and back of hands (skin rejuvenation).
How long does a Restylane treatment last?
Restylane effects are long lasting but they are not permanent. Follow up treatment sessions are recommended every 6 to 12 months, depending on a variety of factors including lifestyle, age and skin type. Lip treatments last roughly 6 months.
Does Restylane treatment hurt?
A local anesthetic cream is sometimes applied to reduce the minor pain related to wrinkle injections, but it is not necessary. For lips, anesthesia is recommended because the lips are a highly sensitive part of the body. Some Restylane products are now available with lidocaine, which helps reduce pain for a more comfortable injection experience.
Am I a good candidate for Restylane?
Restylane is a good treatment option for those who wish to reduce lines and wrinkles, create more defined or fuller lips, to improve the contours of the chin or cheek, and to rejuvenate skin on the face, neck and hands. It should not be used in areas where there is skin inflammation.
Are there any side effects with Restylane?
Product related reactions are rare, but could include redness, swelling, pain, itching, bruising or tenderness at the injection site. Lip enhancement injections may include swelling for up to a week. Restylane, like all skin injection procedures, includes a small risk of infection.
